ASEAN Conference on Energy 2010
Tuesday, October 5th, 2010
KUALA LUMPUR: InnovationXchange Malaysia made its presence felt at the ASEAN Conference on Energy 2010, from the 4th to 5th October 2010, where En. Hasannudin Saidin, Chief Executive Officer of InnovationXchange Malaysia, shared his views on the “Crucial Game Plan of Innovation – Enhancing Sustainable Development through Alternative Energy” within the energy sector and beyond.
Innovation is the novel application of shared knowledge and resources to add social or economic value to various ventures and concepts. According to Hasannudin, innovation is an important mindset which sets the foundation for future growth and collaborations; a state of mind which needs to be prioritized across all sectors and economic divisions, ranging from individual firms to national and regional economies. He also states that the innovative mindset should be adopted within the public and the financial sector, and not be limited to the technological and scientific sectors.
In his address on sustainable development through alternative energy, Hasannudin mentioned that in order to make radical changes for environmental and economic sustainability, low-carbon economies will require innovation in areas of technology, behaviors, business models and its policies.
At the national level, this can be achieved by increasing the talent pool through the improvement of education in the field of mathematics and science, by sustaining and strengthening the nation’s commitment to long-term research, and by providing incentives such as scholarships and visa extensions based on meritocracy to top students and engineers.
At the organisational level, businesses can foster the innovative spirit through focus on three key areas: Purpose, People, and Processes. As shared by Hasannudin, companies can successfully implement innovative ventures by adopting an open mind to innovation, assembling a small team of credible individuals who understand the importance of innovation, and by implementing processes to develop and execute projects that are well aligned with the current business needs.
The key to success for any innovative venture is the development of the mindset, skills, tools, and methodology which foster effective collaboration. In order for an organization to achieve collaborative advantage, new approaches are necessary to establish collaboration networks in order for the sharing of ideas and capabilities with external parties to be efficient and effective.
One such practice is the involvement of a professional intermediary to actively seek external collaborations which are in line with the business focus or organizational strategy – a value model employed by InnovationXchange Malaysia.
